Permalink Reply by Michael Merritt on April 7, 2011 at 3:07pm Maybe have a co-writer competition as well. let more than one person compose the words to a song and put those up against others co-written. Take say 10 songs done this way and have others vote for the best, a runner up, and a 3rd spot. Have rules limiting the number of writers per song. Hey.. it's just an idea:)
Sure, I'd be interested ... depending on the location?
I think its a great idea but whatever you do, DO NOT let the crowd judge the competition. It becomes a popularity contest where the act who brings the most fans/friends wins and that stinks. Maybe have crowd response a small portion of the final score but not the total. My band played in one of those "Battle of the Bands" competitions where the crowd judged and a local high school act won because all their friends showed up and screamed their lungs out. The people who know music came up to us afterward and told us we should have won.
It worked out for the best though because the top prize was a song recording "deal" recorded in someones basement and second prize (which is what we got) was $100 gift certificate to the music store that held the competition. Karma I guess

Hey Court - We don't have a competition going right now. However, if you would like to submit your songs for review by a panel of A&R scouts, may I suggest, A&R Network. AandRnetwork.com.
