Hey Folks,

Glad to join the new harp community here at openmic.us. Live in the Atlanta area and been playing harp here for 30 years...the last 10 have been with my band The Big Dixie Mafia. We play a lot of blues as you may guess, but also do rock and country. Gramps gave me my first harp when I was eight and I proceeded to annoy the crap out of him with it for the next five or six years. But then one day he came over and I was playing and he said "you know what? Your getting pretty good at that"! Haven't stopped playing since :).

Look forward to blogging with ya!

Been told that harp players breathe thru their ears....keep practicing! Comes in handy more than you think!

Morning Lickinstickers!
A self taught blues harp player, been almost 3 years? Play Lee Oskars, and play by ear.
And I build my own TUBE amps! See my pix on my page. Got to have a tube amp guys! Even if its a Champ/Princeton style one. +1 for the Carmex! Any kind of super lube for the lips, besides that? Maybe need to make some and it can double for other 'lips' too?? LOL!!

hey bro it good to ratice for hours but when you really praticing for a long time take 20 mn breaks and apply carmex lip balm or just a tiny bit of vaslene to you lips in modest peoporting and simply wipe it away before you start i have benn on and off stages many times in a day& evening the longest was 6. hours and a fresh cold beer to sip on in between songs will also helpor ice tea if you perfer or even just ice water make shure its cold however thats he key.

I'm a nine year chromatic player. No others around here to ask, but is there anything you can do to keep your harp from rubbing your lips raw? I'd practice for hours longer, but quite often my lips get too damaged to continue. Thanks, guys.
