Greetings fellow musicians

JJ Stuart is a guitarist, singer and songwriter. His most recent work "In The Dark" is an original compilation of songs inspired after having witnessed a total solar eclipse at sea off the island of Aruba on February 26, 1998.

JJ Stuart has been playing guitar since the age of thirteen. After an attempt to become a professional singer in 1980 he sang or worked in a semi-professional capacity advising other musicians in The Frankie Carr Group, White Lion, TT Quick, Crystal Ship, Six Gun Overload and Matriarch.

After reaching some prominence with the NYC Street Music Society in 1986, JJ Stuart took a five year leave from entertaining, traveled extensively across the US, resided in Fort Lauderdale, FL from 1986-1988 then moved back to NYC. In 1993 JJ Stuart left NYC and settled in Albuquerque, NM for three years.

JJ Stuart moved to northern Illinois in 1996 and began a renewal process with his music and began teaching guitar again. In 2000 the very first song for "In The Dark" was written. At the present time JJ Stuart is settled in Kenosha WI.

"I went through a period of stagefright and in order to overcome it I did the unthinkable; I forced myself to play guitar and sing on the corner of Bleeker and Sullivan in the Village to complete strangers, literally passersby on the street. You just…"

"Thanks Paul, I actually did entertain the thought! Super Glue is such good stuff I actually have a tube on me at all times, but I've never used it for this particular purpose. I'll give it a try."

"Singing without 'warming up' your vocal chords is tantemount to playing a tennis match without warming up your muscles. You can do both, but neither is advisable. Go online and download some basic vocal exercises. Do them prior to…"

Laryngitis stinks

Posted on October 17, 2009 at 10:00pm 0 Comments

Almost two weeks ago I got vaccinated for the seasonal flu. This morning I woke up with laryngitis. Aside from the usual home remedies (inhaling steam, warm liquids, don't smoke) it's still in full swing. I know in a few days I'll be back to singing but in the meantime it just stinks!

Nothin' like fresh strings!

I changed the strings on 2 of my guitars this weekend, the 6 string acoustic and electric. I'm debating about the 12 string, and I have a feeling it won't be long. Truth is I haven't been playing the twelve much lately. I tend to go through phases with it. There aren't a lot of songs written specifically for twelve but some of the usual numbers sound really nice with it. I'm looking for Open Mics in Kenosha, Racine and Milwaukee and should start appearing at them in the next two weeks.… Continue

I got blisters on my fingers!

Remember this line from the Beatles song? Yep, did it again. Played so hard I had to keep my fingers in a glass of ice cubes for about 20 minutes. That's OK though the callouses I'm building will go a long way toward my playing stamina. Hopefully I'll still be able to feel the strings!

Don't try this at home

Oh well, gone are the days I could jump out of bed to play and sing. The fingers work just fine it's the voice that needs that first cigarette and first cup of coffee. Then all of a sudden it's ready to go. I was playing "Take It Easy" and at the beginning of the third verse my voice woke up. It's like I went through puberty all over again.
