Oh well, gone are the days I could jump out of bed to play and sing. The fingers work just fine it's the voice that needs that first cigarette and first cup of coffee. Then all of a sudden it's ready to go. I was playing "Take It Easy" and at the beginning of the third verse my voice woke up. It's like I went through puberty all over again.

Craver thanks for the friendly advice. I usually do warm my voice up before singing, I don't think I was off key but I did notice some strain in my voice and then, all of a sudden, the strain was gone! Truth of the matter is my birthday is in a few weeks and I guess I see that I really am no spring chicken any more!

Singing without 'warming up' your vocal chords is tantemount to playing a tennis match without warming up your muscles.

You can do both, but neither is advisable.

Go online and download some basic vocal exercises. Do them prior to performing. The results will amaze you!
