Atlanta has had a vibrant live-music scene dating back to the '70's. Music greats like the Allman Brothers, R.E.M., Sister Hazel, Rob Thomas, The Indigo Girls, John Mayer, and Zach Brown, all call Atlanta home.
Today, Atlanta boasts over fifty-live-music venues like The Masquerade, The Fox Theatre, Eddie's Attic, and Vinyl. Many smaller restaurants and sports bars also host live-music on the weekends.
If you're looking for open mics, Atlanta is your town!
Atlanta is home to OpenMic.US, the parent company of Open Mic Atlanta. They operate 12-15 live-music open mics each week. These open mics primarily take place in the northern suburbs, about 15-20 minutes from downtown.
Here's a look at an Atlanta-Area venue at which you will be sure to enjoy performing.
Abbotts Bar and Grill - 10900 Medlock Bridge Rd, Johns Creek, GA, 30097. 770.495.7110. Every Wednesday, 7 - 10:30. Rock, blues, country, jazz, covers, originals. First come, first served.
This great open mic has been running since 2006. It has a strong base of 'regulars,' but, every week there are new musicians taking the stage. About every-other-week, there's a full-drum kit, but there's always a Toca djembe and an LP cajon. OpenMic.US founder, Craver, hosts every week.
This is a very warm, social atmosphere where you may show-up as a stranger, but you'll leave as a friend. If you like to 'sit-it,' many musicians openly welcome new performers. Just check in with the host.
Abbotts requires all 'paid' performers to audition at the open mic first. If you're looking for a weekend gig, this is how to get one. For paid-gigs, you'll need to play 70% pop covers.
The staff is friendly and engaging and they love musicians! Come hungry. The food is fantastic
