Open Mic U.S.

Want to make new friends and get out of your rut? Try an Open Mic!

One of the main reasons I began playing out at Open Mics was to simply find a way to keep my sanity during a very difficult time in my life! At least once a week I used Open Mic night as a sanctuary from that mean old world. In the process I've made so many new and interesting friends then I ever dreamed I would. It allowed me to step through a musical portal of sorts and discover a whole different place! I will forever be grateful for that. It would take me a long time to make a complete list of all the new friends I've made in the last 6+ years and the cool thing is that the list keeps growing every week. I wonder if that's true for you? I would be interested in hearing about the life-long relationships that you have made through Open Mics. I think as a part of this blog I will highlight some of these friends. To see personal friends growing in their music skill and confident is an awesome thing! Since I am going to try and keep these blogs on the brief end...I will write more on this later...stay tuned :)

Wow! Very interesting about the "keep my sanity during a very difficult time in my life" for I relate to this so clearly. Amazing how a song or just music may keep one sane! The portal is so crucial for it is ONE that has to make the decision to go through. If this decsion is made, then you have made the decision to do WHAT YOU LOVE! This I think is the key, for we must NEVER let the forces that are out there stop us from doing WHAT WE LOVE! Once YOU stepped through, you discovered "a whole different place" and the only food for thought I may add to that is: Can you imagine how many more different places are out there that will LOVE you? You are not alone in this temporary, gravity bound life we are in. The words you write to describe this experience is very touching and from my side to read and understand them, just makes me stronger to know I am NOT ALONE. Just one song kept me sane during a VERY,VERY DIFFICULT time in my life. When I heard the song, only pearls would fall from my eyes for weeks and as time went by I healed. OH! and get this, the song was "Long May You Run" by Neil Young and THE SONG IS ABOUT A CAR! :) Amazing how the maker of the song thinks one thing and the listener may hear the song and it mean something so completely different to them! That's the goal........something so unique and different that the listener finds a very touching meaning and that meaning shall forver be in their memory banks. Thank-you for your very touching words. Luis Soto Jr.
